I have more shots of the TT when they load onto my phone properly but great ski days this weekend!
Monday - New Year's Eve - rest day or easy ski or alternative sport!
Tuesday - New Year's Day - 2 things!
1. For locals, there is a Snowflake Series running race at the Orillia waterfront - there is a 5k and a 10k - a few families will be there.
Snowflake Series
2. Practice will be at 3pm-5pm (Hardwood closes at 5)- taking advantage of sunlight and warm temperatures. I really want to get on classics, but looks like rain again so please bring skate too and we will make a call. We should do technique and a few intervals!
Wednesday - Strength on skis or at home - some leg and core exercises. Repeats of squats, lunges, push ups, sit ups, Russian twists, leg lifts, plank......If you are on skiis, try doing legs only and or arms only workouts
Thursday - Ski or run for 45 min easy - if running do some short pick ups 30sec to 45sec. If skiing blast up hills in a dynamic stride and recover on downhills.
Friday - Rest or Alternative activity.
Saturday - Full practice at Hardwood. Again I would love to classic in preparation for Sunday's race but am uncertain if it will be more of a skate day. I want to video classic technique similar to what we did on skate - and there is usually a log more to learn on classic that we can always improve. Bring rock and race skis and it may be possible for us to start to wax race skis (at least tips and tails) for those who need waxing as the trailer will be at Hardwood but will not likely go up to Midland.
Sunday - RACE IS NOW IN HIGHLANDS - I would like to be on skis warming up at 9am so get there a bit earlier for wax, and pfaffing. Weather looks like -2 and sunny so should be fantastic!!!
Midland Race - Hopefully you have signed up for this race. It is classic event. The skis you will be racing on need to be glide waxed (tips and tails) and at this early time it looks like temps around the 0 to -2 but may change. A base binder is a great thing to apply to the kick zone and then we can test wax in the morning to see what we will apply for racing - for waxers, please feel free to send messages on What's App to help out with this - and I hope it is not a klister day for your sakes!
Parents, it is always wonderful to see you signed up and racing - it brings a certain joy to your children to see you suffer (did that come out wrong??) but more importantly I think it brings us some respect and empathy for our children athletes and what they have accomplished and what they are experiencing in their race season. So its Win-Win (without having to win).
