Feb 4-Feb 10th - Kawartha Skiathlon

Hey see this guy?  That's Dwayne - and he volunteered a bunch of time this weekend along with several parents to wax our skis - sometimes at 6am!  When you see your parents please give them a huge thank you for this - without them your skis would be pretty darn slow (well I am guessing).  

For all athletes, it is also VERY IMPORTANT to take good care of your equipment at races and between them!  We did a not very good job of keeping our skis in bags outside the trailer this weekend (I am really talking about Saturday only here). Things got pretty messy out there  - so we can work on that for our next event. Basically, keep your equipment in bags at all times and try to keep the bags organized with a walking path somewhere amid the mess!  THANK YOU!


So Eastern's - what a big race!  I hope you all enjoyed the weekend. There were some fantastic results for each and every skier!  I hope you are taking some time to write these events in your training log. I have not been asking you to bring it lately, but it is still a great log book. You may want to write down your race distances and times in your book and we can have a look at it next year for the similar events. What else can you write about.....well remember, you are successful if you improve so you are the only one who is looking at your results and really getting meaning from them.  So lets all think - where did I do well?  What can I improve?  Did I have a good mental game out there and was I able to stay positive?  Did I remember good technique out there? Was I physically in shape for the distances I raced?  When did I do passing? When did I get passed?  Did I have any gas in the tank at the finish line? 
These are some things we can talk about in practice. 



Monday - rest and recovery
Tuesday - Strength/power moves
Wednesday - ski/run endurance
Thursday - Fly to Switzerland - oh wait, that's Emily!!!!  Lets ski instead!  How about some skate skiing tonight - lets work on some technique - some hill climbing on flat skis - lets make hills easier! So we can go faster, which means still working harder!
Friday - Rest or alternative sports!

Saturday - Sking away from chalet at 9:30 sharp!  Bring both sets of skis - we will start with classic and hopefully get a chance to skate!  We can set up a practice transition site as we would in the skiathlon!

Sunday - Skiathlon race at Peterborough - Kawartha Nordic - I thought they might have ice cream - but sadly last year when I visited - they did not have ice cream!  There is a captains meeting at 9am so I will shoot to arrive on site at 8:30 (ish).  As usual we can try to have a group warm up 1hr before our first racer.  Races begin at 10am.
