Nov 16th - Is Winter on the Way???

Was this the Last Perfect Fall Day???

What great weather we had again for practice this past Saturday, but it looks like winter is on the way in the next few weeks!!!

That will mean more variable weather and we might need to adjust what we're doing at a given practice based on the weather.

If we do need to change anything significant, we will be sure to send an email to all parents as well as post a note in the WhatsApp group.

As an example, the weather this Wednesday will be below freezing with the possibility of snow on the ground.  Depending on how much we get, we might actually look to bring skis and slide-around on a flat portion of the trail.

With that said, I would encourage all parents to start to watch the weather forecast, the radar, as well as the road conditions in the links at the bottom.  One of the reasons why HSB gets such good snowfall each winter is the lake-effect snow off of Georgian Bay.  That means that the skies (and roads) where you live might be clear, but it could be snowing sideways here in Oro-Medonte.

Don't get me wrong, that's what we want!  We also want you to be able to get here safely and with time to spare. We also need you to be mindful of potential changes in what we'll do at a given practice should it be snowing sideways!

Wednesday – TBD (BRING HEADLAMPS!!!)

Meet at the Palace between 5:15PM - 5:20PM

Depending on what falls from the sky in the next 48hrs, we will either go for a pole run (little to some snow) or maybe even a Classic Ski (15cm+ of snow).

Look for an email by 9AM on Wednesday morning with the final call.  In the meantime, get a set of "rock skis" (Classic) ready just-in-case.  Chances are this will just involve dusting them off;)

Practice will run until 7:00PM

Saturday – At Hardwood

Meet at the Palace between 9:15AM - 9:20AM

We will be back at Hardwood again on Saturday for more adventures in the forest.  Bring WALKING POLES and we will keep things flexible as to what we will do based on the weather.

Based on the forest when writing this, any snow that fell during the week will quite likely have melted by Saturday.

Practice will run until just after 11:30AM

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either on-road or off-road
  • Fun at Recess – Play Basketball, Touch Football, Grounders, or just about anything that has you moving and jumping
  • Strength Training – Try some of the exercised HERE that we do at practice on your own.  These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week.  Perhaps each Monday combine them with a run in your local park or forest!
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
