Nov 30th - Here comes the SNOW!!!

HERE IT COMES!

There are BIG FAT Snowflakes falling here as I write this post.  It is projected to snow for the next 36-48hrs with pretty consistent sub-zero temps projected for the next week to ten days.

If Hardwood is able to get 25-30cm of snow, they should be able to roll that down to a skiable base.

With that said, we may NOT be able to ski on Wednesday if they are still rolling/packing as we don't want to damage the base before it has a chance to set and freeze.

Wednesday – TBD (BRING HEADLAMPS!!!)

Meet at the Palace between 5:15PM - 5:20PM

Depending on how far along Hardwood is able to get, we might be able to ski.  If not, we will go for a snowy hike on "The Wild Side" Trails.  Be sure to be prepared to bring either ski gear or winter hiking gear.

If we are able to ski, please make sure to help your parents and learn how to scrape and brush your skis!

Also, take a look at your feet and make sure you don't have any long nails that will cut neighbouring toes;)

If we cannot ski, please make sure to bring the following gear for Winter Hiking:
  • Snow Boots
  • Snow/Splash Pants
  • Breathable Coat
  • Good Base Layers (Top, Bottoms & Socks)
  • Hat, Gloves, and Headlamp
  • Walking Poles

Look for an email by 9AM on Wednesday morning with the final call.  If anyone has any extra "rock skis" (Classic) do let the group know on WhatsApp.

Practice will run until 7:00PM

Saturday – At Hardwood

Meet at the Palace between 9:15AM - 9:20AM

It seems very likely that we will be able to be on skis by the weekend.  We will very likely Skate on Saturday as that's the best option on recently rolled trails.

In the meantime, practice your side-to-side hops as well as thinking about your weight transfer.

Please know that we will focus on skiing SLOWLY with excellent balance on our first few outings on the trails.

Practice will run until 11:30AM, but those that want to stay for a bit longer are more than welcome to play some games until 12:00PM

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
  • Start to some stretching, pilates, or yoga as your muscles will definitely be a bit sore after your first few skis.
  • Running or Walking with Poles – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Fun at Recess – Play Basketball, Touch Football, Grounders, or just about anything that has you moving and jumping
  • Strength Training – Keep looking to do some of the exercises HERE that we do at practice on your own.  These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week.  Perhaps combine them with a run in your local park or in your local forest.
We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
