Feb 1st - Nicer Weather this Week

We Love the Sun and the Snow!

I think that we can all agree that waiting that extra hour on both Saturday and Sunday was the right call.  As if on schedule, the Sun came out from behind the clouds at nearly 11AM exactly yesterday!

Sarah and Bronwen saw most of you on Sunday, though we know that there were a few families we didn't end up seeing.  Hopefully, we'll catch up with you this weekend so we can hear about your "Forest Section" effort.

If you'd like please send me your time for the "Forest Section" (either once or twice) from yesterday.

Here is are some great videos to watch before you are on-snow next showing one of Norway's top skiers that Jack Sasseville sent-around to the Senior Team.

Diagonal Stride

Offset

Knowing how to understand Norwegian is helpful to get some of the finer points of the commentary, but the visuals almost speak for themselves!

Wednesday - Strength Training on Zoom

Please join as close to 5:15PM as we will look to chat about last weekend's skiing, as well as this weekend's skiing before we get started at 5:30PM

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5602405075 or use meeting ID: 560 240 5075

As always, parents are welcomed and encouraged to join in as all of these exercises will help your skiing too!

Please review the exercises HERE beforehand.  You will need a CHAIR or a STEP for the workout.

Saturday - SKATE

Park at the Sochi Extension Lot.  Please do the following drills (10-15min) before you start your ski:
  1. No Poles Offest (but with arms as if they have poles) for the first "Short Loop"
  2. After the "Short Loop", get your poles and add-in Lead/High Pole (remember Hands UP!)
  3. As you get that rhythm, add-in Trailing Pole (both poles plant at the same time)
  4. Practice on your weak side offset
  5. Practice offset switch
  6. No Poles One Skate - Down-Across-Up and then Heel Clicks
  7. Add-in Poles with Long Glides
We will be doing our first formal Time Trial this Saturday on the "Forest Section" of the Sochi Extension between 10:30AM and 11:00AM.  The Start/Finish will be in the cut-off about 1/2 way through the "Forest Section".  I will send a map and further details in an email on Friday
  • Mini's will "Race" a Half Loop of the Flatter portion
  • Grades 5-6 will "Race" One (1) Full Loop
  • Grades 7-8 will "Race" Two (2) Full Loops
Each group will be given a 5-10 min start window (e.g. Grades XX will start between 10:30AM and 10:35AM)  that we would ask that you stick to so we don't have a larger group congregating.

After your "Race", you can give me your time and then ski along to do a cool-down on your own.

Sunday - CLASSIC

Start at the on the Teaching Flats around 9:30AM.  Practice some no poles skiing on the upper portion of the Teaching Flats.  Work on your weight transfer staying on just one ski or the other.  Once you get your poles practice some Double Poling on the long steady grade up to the top of the Teaching Flats.

Bronwen and Sarah will be out on Kim's Loop with backpacks (hint!) from 10:00AM to 11:00AM.
  • Follow Torino to Corridor which is the start of Kim's Loop (see map below)
  • Then look to do the following loop
  • Corridor, Straight Away, Rapids, then up to The Hook and down Runaway and up The Grind
  • At the Top of the Grind, follow Sochi back to the top of Home Run
  • Mini's should do this once skiing steadily with good technique
  • Grades 5-6 should do this two (2) times
  • Grades 7-8 should do this loop three (3) times
