Keeping our Distance
I know that we are all excited to be able to return to formal practices, but this means that we will have to EVEN more careful about keeping our distance from others and, when we are together as a group, wearing masks.
We NEED to do everything possible to reduce the possibility of a 3rd wave of the virus with the fact that these new more transmissible variants now existing more broadly in our communities.
I know we can do this, we all just need to work togther!
For this week's practices, we will have some warmer weather with the possibility of more soft conditions on the trails as well as some tricky kick waxing.
Stay tuned for any further instructions over email regarding kick waxing for Sunday.
Wednesday - SKATE - Bring HEADLAMPS
Please arrive as close to 5:15PM as we will start the practice at 5:30PM SHARP.
Meet at the Lonesome Pine and we will stay in the lit sections around the Teaching Flats for the first 30min for Games, Skills, and Drills.
We will then head out onto the Trails for a 30min continuous ski
We will return to the Teaching Flats at 6:30PM for some more fun Sprints and Relays
We will wrap-up at 7PM.
If you are not able to join, consider doing another week of strength training or an alternate exercise. See the latest exercises HERE including last week's "Bonus Set". You will still need a CHAIR or a STEP for the workout.
Saturday - SKATE - Starting at 9:30AM
NOTE - We are going to have a "Crazy Hat" day. You can race in your "Crazy Hat" if you want, or just wear it for your warm-up and cool down. Candy Prizes for the Craziest Crazy Hats!!!
There is also SNOW in the forecast during our practice time, so dress accordingly!
Park at the Sochi Extension Lot. Please do the following drills (10-15min) before you start your ski:
- No Poles Offest (but with arms as if they have poles) for the first "Short Loop"
- After the "Short Loop", get your poles and add-in Lead/High Pole (remember Hands UP!)
- As you get that rhythm, add-in Trailing Pole (both poles plant at the same time)
- Practice on your weak side offset
- Practice offset switch
- No Poles One Skate - Down-Across-Up and then Heel Clicks
- Add-in Poles with Long Glides
We will be doing another Time Trial this Saturday on the "Forest Section" of the Sochi Extension. The Start/Finish will be in the cut-off about 1/2 way through the "Forest Section" in the same location we used last time.
- Mini's will "Race" a Half Loop of the Flatter portion and will start between 9:50AM and 9:55AM
- Grades 5-6 will "Race" One (1) Full Loop and will start between 10:10AM and 10:15AM
- Grades 7-8 will "Race" Two (2) Full Loops and will start between 10:30 and 10:35AM
Please stick to your start window so we don't have too much congestion around the Start/Finish
After your "Race", you can give me your time and then ski along to do a cool-down on your own.
Sunday - CLASSIC - Starting at 9:30AM and ending at 11:30AM
NOTE - We are going to do a "Plaid (or Pajamas)" day. As Sunday's ski is more about exploring and adventure, wearing plaid makes sense. NOTE - Be sure to dress for the weather underneath your Plaid (or Pajamas) as we want to make sure everyone stays warm and dry!
Look for an email from me on Saturday by 5PM with the details on waxing as well as the route we will be skiing.
We will also need ONE (1) Parent Volunteer for this Ski. Please contact Jeff Verheyen at jefv@rogers.com if you haven't yet volunteered this year and plan to ski on Sunday.
I would like us to do some drills and skills on the Teaching Flats from 9:30AM to 9:50AM, then ski out to a quieter portion of the trail for us to do another timed "Challange" section of Trail.
I just want to make sure that the waxing will be easy-enough before I pick the trail. I'd like to do the "Roller Coaster" loop. It is on the Salt Lake City Trail starts after the climbs out of Baby Hole and Hole and finishes at the top of the hill after Terminator.
From there Grades 5-8 would we would ski back to the Teaching Flats following Salt Lake City while the Mini's would cut-over to Home Run after they reach The Posts.
