Having FUN in the SUN
We are able to return to group practices this week now that Simcoe-Muskoka has returned back to the "Red Zone". That means we will ALL need to bring masks to practices and be sure to keep our distance when we're together as a group for any sort of instructions.
Though there is some milder weather coming our way this week, there is plenty of snow both on the trails and, if we need more, in the woods.
Wednesday - SKATE - Bring HEADLAMPS
Please arrive as close to 5:15PM as we will start the practice at 5:30PM SHARP.
We are going to do a SKI in SHORTS (over your tights) DAY as the weather will be warm.
Meet at the Lonesome Pine and we will stay in the lit sections around the Teaching Flats for the first 30min for Games, Skills, and Drills.
We will then head out onto the Trails for a 30min continuous ski
We will return to the Teaching Flats at 6:30PM for some more fun Sprints and Relays
We will wrap-up at 7PM.
If you are not able to join, consider doing another week of strength training or an alternate exercise. See the latest exercises HERE including the "Bonus Set". You will still need a CHAIR or a STEP for the workout.
Saturday - CLASSIC
Park at the Sochi Extension Lot and be ready to ski by 9:30AM
We will be doing what could be our last Time Trial this Saturday on the "Forest Section" of the Sochi Extension. The Start/Finish will be in the cut-off about 1/2 way through the "Forest Section" in the same location we used before.
- Mini's will "Race" a Half Loop of the Flatter portion and will start between 9:50AM and 9:55AM
- Grades 5-6 will "Race" One (1) Full Loop and will start between 10:10AM and 10:15AM
- Grades 7-8 will "Race" Two (2) Full Loops and will start between 10:30 and 10:35AM
Please stick to your start window so we don't have too much congestion around the Start/Finish
I will be able to time your "Race", so just be sure to arrive on-time.
I will be sending-out waxing instruction on Friday night, but the temperatures are projected to be back below freezing on Friday night. Best guess is Universal Klister over a Base Klister
Sunday - SKATE
Park at the Palace and be ready to ski by 9:30AM
We will also need ONE (1) Parent Volunteer for this Ski. Please contact Jeff Verheyen at jefv@rogers.com if you haven't yet volunteered this year and plan to ski on Sunday.
We will do the following drills to start
- No Poles Offest (but with arms as if they have poles)
- After the "Short Loop", get your poles and add-in Lead/High Pole (remember Hands UP!)
- As you get that rhythm, add-in Trailing Pole (both poles plant at the same time)
- Practice on your weak side offset
- Practice offset switch
- No Poles One Skate - Down-Across-Up and then Heel Clicks
- Add-in Poles with Long Glides
We will do these drills and skills on the Teaching Flats from 9:30AM to 10:00AM, then some short Sprint Relays with the whole team from 10:00AM to 10:30AM
We will then go on a Trail Ski for the final 45-60min of practice. We will pick a route that has good conditions and not too much other traffic.
Parents are encouraged to join in on the Sprint Relays against the kids. Come out for some FAST FUN!
We will only need a parent volunteer for the final hour of practice for our Trail Ski.
