Week of Jan 3rd - Happy to be Skiing

Come On Snow!!!

Great job everyone your TT today in VERY challenging conditions.

One of the joys of Nordic Skiing is that form and effort are more relevant than time to gauge your improvement.

You have ALL made noticeable improvements in your technique this year, so keep skiing and the progress will come with time, effort and consistency.

Stay tuned to your email for any developments this week as (fingers crossed!) we receive more snow and conditions improve.

Look for an email tonight from the Team on the most recent announcement from the Provincial Government on gathering limits.

Wednesday - Likely Classic

Please arrive between 5:15PM and 5:25PM so that we can get started at 5:30PM.  You will need to Enter off Line 6 as the main entrance to the Upper Lot will likely be closed.

I will send a note on Wednesday AM to confirm we are doing Classic as there is SNOW projected for that afternoon and into the evening.

We will continue to work on Double Poling as well as working-on good weight transfer up hills

Saturday – Skate

Hopefully, with more trails opening later in the week, this will allow us to get to some places we haven't yet been to this year!

Arrive and park by The Palace by 9:20AM so that we can be Skiing by 9:30AM

We will return to the Teaching Flats by 11:00AM and then finish off with some timed Skate Sprints for the last 30min.

Please also be sure to bring a water belt and perhaps some snacks.

Sunday - Classic Race Simulation

We will look to do a Classic Race Simulation of between 3km to 5km depending on age and experience level.

Hopefully, the Sochi Extension will be fully opened so that we can use "The Forest Loop".  We will confirm the parking and starting location on Sunday early morning.

Please arrive by 9:20AM so that we can get Skiing by 9:30AM.  We will send you an individual start time that you MUST adhere to in order to ensure we keep everyone spread-out

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either indoors or outdoors if safe
  • Strength Training – Try some of the exercised that we do at practice on your own.  These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week.  You can either run outside as a warm-up, then do strength inside, or run on a treadmill followed by your strength workout!
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
  • We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.

Attendance Sheet

Please click HERE to see the Attendance Sheet.  Please simply COPY and PASTE either the Green or Red cells for YES or NO under the practice date.
