What a great day in the SUN at Georgian Nordic for The Sounder yesterday. ALL the coaches were impressed by the efforts each of you put forth as well as watching the improvements in your technique!
The next time you see Beth, Liam, and Erik from the Senior Team, thank them for their help doing grip waxing as well as for their help placing skis on the start grid. After most of the team had left, they went out onto the trails for THEIR workout. They're a great example of TEAM and why Team Hardwood is such a great group.
Many of you are traveling with us up to Sudbury this weekend for the Ontario Cup at Walden Nordic. We will be sending out a separate note to this group with some instructions/tips for the weekend.
Tuesday - Skate Skiing at HSB
HSB is still not open for Night Skiing until they receive more snow, so please enter and exit via Line 6.
Arrive between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can begin skiing by 5:30PM.
A working HEADLAMP will be REQUIRED to participate. Please make sure you have yours packed with fresh/charged batteries.
Practice will run until 7:00PM as per usual.
If HSB is CLOSED due to weather and we cannot ski, we will do a workout on ZOOM. We should know the status by early afternoon tomorrow, so watch for an email and a post to the WhatsApp group.
Saturday - Walden OCUP - Day #1
The first day of racing is an Interval (i.e. one-at-a-time) Skate race with more info to follow. We encourage ALL skiers and parents to view the event website HERE to begin to familiarize yourself with the event as a whole
We would encourage any families not attending the OCUP to use the WhatsApp group to coordinate a ski at HSB at an agreeable time.
Sunday - Walden OCUP - Day #2
The second day of racing is a Pursuit Classic. What is a "pursuit" you ask, well there are no lights and sirens involved, so not to worry. A "pursuit" is also a one-at-a-time start, but the start times are based on the results from the previous day's race.
The faster skier in a given age group will start first, the second fastest skier will start the same number of seconds back from the first skier that they finished the day before and so forth down the line.
It's a really neat format that we're excited you'll be able to experience.
For those watching at home, you'll also be able to find the results on Zone 4.
As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
- Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthily
- Running – Try for 20-30min. Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
- Cycling – Try for 20-30min, indoors on a Spin Bike while watching your favourite show
- Strength Training – Keep up with the exercises that we did at practice in the Fall on your own. We would encourage everyone to keep up with doing one Run/Strength session each week.
- Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc. There are LOTS of great resources online
- We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
