Week of Jan 30th - Great Conditions and Racing at Monora Park!!!

What great timing for this most recent snowfall that allowed us to race at Monora Park this past weekend.  More snow is on the way this week, so we'll ski as much as we can!

One of the defining values of Team Hardwood is "Being Better than you were Yesterday".  We're seeing ALL the skiers live through this value in how they're approaching each practice and each race.  Our view is that the MOST important thing that a sport like Nordic Skiing can teach us is how to live through these values every day.

Some thoughts from Sarah about the Junior Team and our progress this year below:

Team Hardwood Juniors are off to a fantastic start!  All of the coaches are seeing a lot of improvement in technique and skiers are learning about racing and pacing. Most importantly skiers are having fun. The points for the SOD (Southern Ontario District) Series have been updated HERE
  • 2012 Girls - Sarah is 2nd and Livia in 3rd
  • 2012 Boys - Luke in 5th and Nathan in 6th
  • 2011 Girls - Nora is 3rd in 2011 Girls, Tati in 4th, and Lily in 5th
  • 2011 Boys - Davis is 5th
  • 2010 - Islay is 2nd for Girls and Elliot is 2nd for Boys
  • AND Coach Adam is in first for 2005 Boys!
These points are cumulative but the award winners are based on the best five (5) races.

Tuesday - Classic Skiing at HSB

As HSB is open for Night Skiing, we will meet at The Chalet!  Arrive between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can begin skiing by 5:30PM.

working HEADLAMP is still REQUIRED to participate.  Please make sure you have yours packed with fresh/charged batteries.

Practice will run until 7:00PM as per usual.

Waxing should be pretty straightforward - Blue Wax with perhaps one layer of Green over top

Saturday - Cold Weather

Cold Temps are predicted on Saturday morning, so we're going to decide what we might do.

Last year when we had this sort of cold weather, we just played games on the Upper Teaching Flats.

Stay tuned for more details later in the week over email and WhatsApp

Sunday - Suntrail Special at Hepworth

Looks to be warmer by Sunday!

More details are forthcoming and we're encouraging parents to car pool owning to the distance to the Owen Sound area.

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthily
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 20-30min, indoors on a Spin Bike while watching your favourite show
  • Strength Training – Keep up with the exercises that we did at practice in the Fall on your own.  We would encourage everyone to keep up with doing one Run/Strength session each week.
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
  • We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
