One Meter of SNOW!!!
I've used the word "staggering" enough times over the past few days to describe the amount of snow around HSB right now. In the 20 years we've lived in the area, this is nearly the max we've seen at one time!
We'll seize the opportunity and ski as much as possible over the next few weeks. The other good news is that the 14 day forecast shows well below freezing temps!
Tuesday - Skiing at HSB
We will look to Classic Ski again on Tuesday. Hardwood is now open for Night Skiing, so please meet at The Chalet at 5:20 PM so we can get skiing by 5:30 PM and practice will run until 7:00 PM.
Projections right now are for around -10C at the time of our practice - so perfect Blue Kick Wax conditions!
Bring a HEADLAMP as we WILL be heading out onto the trails
We will do some "intervals" during the practice, so please dress in layers you can shed if needed.
Saturday – Holiday Ski Fun at HSB
We will have some post-holiday fun at HSB, including a skate ski, some agility games, and our Annual Gift Exchange and Festive Sweater/Hat Day.
We will send a reminder email with more details on the parameters of the gift exchange and sweater day.
Please arrive by 9:20AM, we'll ski from 9:30AM to just before 11:00AM, and then do the gift exchange indoors at HSB.
Sunday – The Sounder!!
We have our first official race of the season on Sunday at the Georgian Outdoor Activity Centre just North of Parry Sound.
Sound families have been there before, but we will be sending out an email with full details on the event event in the coming days.
If you haven't already, please be sure you get your registration HERE tonight as it closes on Wed evening. You can use the code "SKI2RACES" to get a discount on the Skate race later in the morning. There is LOTS of time for kids to do both the Classic race, rest for a bit, have a snack, change boots, and then do the Skate race.
As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
- Get out and SKI as much as reasonably possible!!
- Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthily
- Running – Try for 20-30min. Treadmills are okay this time of year if you don't have a steady surface will all this snow!
- Cycling – Try for 20-30min, indoors on a Spin Bike while watching your favourite show
- Fun at Recess – Play Basketball, Touch Football, Grounders, or just about anything that has you moving and jumping
- Strength Training – Keep up with the exercises that we did at practice in the Fall on your own. We would encourage everyone to keep up with doing one Run/Strength session each week.
- Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc. There are LOTS of great resources online
- We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
