Oct 26th - SNOW is the Air

 Those are Snow Flakes!

What a treat to arrive at Hardwood on Saturday and see SNOW❆❆❆ in the air.  Hard to believe that we could be skiing on-snow inside of three (3) to four (4) weeks from now!

Wednesday – Running and MORE Strength Training (BRING HEADLAMPS!!!)

Meet at the Palace at 5:15PM so that we can get running right at 5:30PM.  The daylight is fading really fast, but the practice will run right until 7:00PM.

It is the final week of Hardwood’s Wednesday Night Cross Series, so we will look to cheer on some of our favourite cyclists while they are working hard on the new shorter Cross Course.

After some cheering, we will be doing a run to yet a different part of Hardwood to find a few more good spots to stop for bodyweight exercises😁

We will wrap-up the practice with another rousing game of Soccer Baseball!⚽⚾ similar to what we did last Wednesday.

NOTE - Please Bring a HEADLAMP as we'll need them now to see the Trail.  Also be sure to bring good trail running shoes (and tall socks) as well as be sure to watch the forecast for the evening and dress accordingly.

Saturday – Halloween Treat Run

We will be doing a joint practice with the Senior Team and doing a type of Scavenger Hunt at Hardwood Ski and Bike.

We will put the skiers into small groups of like ability and each group will need to stay together throughout the run.  Staying with their group, skiers will be using basic maps of Hardwood to find the Scavenger Hunt spots.

At the end of the Scavenger Hunt, we will have treats for the kids to reward them for their accomplishments.

NOTE - We would welcome 2-3 Parent Volunteers (who are okay to keep-up to kids running) to accompany some of the groups.  Don't worry as you'll also get a treat at the end as well🍬🍬🍬

After the Scavenger Hunt, we'll stay on the Teaching Flats for a wrap-up with a Game.

Practice will wrap-up by 11:30AM

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either on-road or off-road
  • Fun at Recess – Play Basketball, Touch Football, Grounders, or just about anything that has you moving and jumping
  • Strength Training – Try some of the exercised HERE that we do at practice on your own.  These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week.  Perhaps each Monday combine them with a run in your local park or forest!
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
