It was certainly a wild week of weather, but that's par for the course in December. I'm truly sad that we didn't get to run any practices this past weekend, but it reminds us that we are truly at the mercy of the weather for the sport we love.
There remains a great deal of uncertainty as to what this week will hold in-term of weather and snow conditions, but we will do our best to keep you well-informed as the situation evolves.
For parents, Junior, and Mini Skiers, please keep reading the Blog carefully each week. That way you are in the right place, at the right time, and with all the right equipment ready to go.
Please also fill in your attendance HERE at the start of each week regardless of the weather. That way we know who plans to attend each practice. To make this a bit more fun, we will begin to have a little contest (with candy prizes) each week for those that read it carefully each week!
If we are able to return to the trails this weekend, we will be separating the skiers into small groups of like experience so that they can stay together and stay safe.
That means we will now start to look for one (1) parent volunteer for each weekend practice to ski with one of the groups. We will be sending out a separate email about how exactly this will work, but the sign-up will be integrated into our current attendance sheet.
We also hope that we can start to take some videos of the kids skiing individually so that we can offer suggestions on how to improve their technique.
Wednesday.
Right now Hardwood's Trails are CLOSED until they receive more snow. Despite this, we will hold a practice this Wednesday, but possibly at an alternate location in the Barrie area should the trails remain closed.
Look for an email on Wednesday morning with the final details once we know Hardwood's conditions
Regardless of the practice location, please arrive by 5:15PM so that we can be moving by 5:30PM SHARP.
Temperatures are set to be a bit colder on Wednesday, so please dress appropriately - no ankle socks:)
Practice will run until 7:00PM
Saturday
We are looking to repeat the missed practice at Highland this Saturday. As Hardwood will need a good dump of snow to restore what's been lost, the conditions at Highlands Nordic, are projected to be far better on Saturday as they had received more snow prior to the rain and lost less then Hardwood.
Please see a link to directions HERE
We will go with a slightly later start, so please arrive by 9:45AM so that we can skiing by 10:00AM SHARP!
We will look to Skate again and practice will run until 12:00PM
Sunday
We will plan to ski at Hardwood as we hope they'll receive enough snow this week to reopen.
Should this NOT be the case, we will look for other options that could include either a return to Highlands or an alternate outdoor activity in the Barrie area. We should have a better sense of this by mid-day Saturday so that we can all make appropriate plans.
More details to follow by email
