Feb 8th - Racing Against the Clock

Great Times on Saturday!!!

I was so happy to see everyone working hard on Saturday for our first fun "Race Against the Clock".  Racing teaches many lessons: coming prepared; working hard; having fun; and learning from the experience.  I really thought everyone did a great job!

We plan to host a few more "races" like this in the coming weeks.  I would be happy to chat with any of the skiers one-on-one about any aspect of their "race" on Saturday as that's what Coaches are here for, to help you improve!

I also heard about a magic bench somewhere on Kim's Loop that dispenses Gummi Bears!  I skied by there a couple of times today, but it seems like someone ate all them all...πŸ˜“

I did also hear about lots of great Classic Skiing on Sunday and I also heard a funny joke:

Why is so hard to do Kim's Loop without skiing The Grind?

Because it Hooks you in and you can't Runaway from itπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It's supposed to be a snowy and cold week, so we are going to keep watching the forecast for this weekend and our plans below may change

Wednesday - Strength Training on Zoom

Please join as close to 5:15PM as we will look to chat about last weekend's skiing, as well as this weekend's skiing before we get started at 5:30PM

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5602405075 or use meeting ID: 560 240 5075

As always, parents are welcomed and encouraged to join in as all of these exercises will help your skiing too!

Please review the exercises HERE beforehand as have added a few old favourites as a "Bonus Set".  You will still need a CHAIR or a STEP for the workout.

Saturday - SKATE

Please do the following drills (10-15min) before you start your ski:
  1. No Poles Offest (but with arms as if they have poles)
  2. After the "Short Loop", get your poles and add-in Lead/High Pole (remember Hands UP!)
  3. As you get that rhythm, add-in Trailing Pole (both poles plant at the same time)
  4. Practice on your weak side offset
  5. Practice offset switch
  6. No Poles One Skate - Down-Across-Up and then Heel Clicks
  7. Add-in Poles with Long Glides
We will be doing a steady Skate of 30-45min with 10 x 15-second sprints during your ski.  Pick both fun as well as challenging sections of trail for your sprints.

Based on the weather forecast, we will announce on Friday night the trail on which we will be skiing Saturday.

Sunday - CLASSIC

Practice some no poles skiing for 5min.  Work on your weight transfer staying on just one ski or the other.  Once you get your poles practice some Double Poling before you start-out

We will have two (2) to three (3) "Race Pace" sections marked-out on whatever route makes the most sense.  Each of these sections will be 2-3min in length.  Mini's will do two (2) of the sections and Juniors will do all three (3).  Hopefully, we can use some of the sections we've skied in the past so you can compare your times.

Based on the weather forecast, we will announce on Saturday night the trail on which we will be skiing Sunday.
