I'm glad everyone was able to stay warm at our practices last week. This week's temperatures look to be a bit warmer with some new SNOW❄❄❄
Many of you will be racing this weekend at The Sounder (Sat in Classic at Georgian Nordic north of Parry Sound) and/or at The Suntrail Special (Sunday in Skate at the Sawmill Trails north of Owen Sound).
It was also great to see many of you joining in the "Mini Mass Start" event that was hosted by the Senior Team this past Thursday night.
It also looked like everyone had fun doing the "Pursuit" Race on Sunday morning and we saw lots of great efforts and lots of good technique - you should all be proud!
Please see the Results from both HERE
Wednesday - Classic
Please arrive at The Chalet between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can get started at 5:30PM.
We will be doing some more skills, drills, and agility on trails outside of the Night Loop, so BRING HEADLAMPS!!!
We will also use one of our short loops out on the trails to do a Team Sprint.
I will be sending-out waxing recommendations on Tuesday night, but here is what we learned from this past Sunday:
- Waxing is a guessing game based on weather "predictions"
- Sometimes our guesses or off by a bit, just like the weather
- You want to have REALLY good grip for Classic
- So ALWAYS bring extra hard wax with you (i.e. in your jacket or water bottle belt) - one colder wax than recommended and one warmer wax than recommended
- That way YOU can adjust YOUR wax if needed
Saturday – The Sounder
We will send out a note with a schedule for the Race on Friday during the day. We will also provide some glide waxing recommendations as well as grip-wax prep recommendations.
The Team will be bringing the Wax Trailer, so we will also include times for those that want the Waxing Team to do their grip wax. You will need to arrive earlier if you want to take advantage of this and will need to bring a 2nd set of skis on which to do your warm-up.
If you are not able to attend The Sounder, we recommend that you do still ski on Saturday at Hardwood or wherever else makes sense!
Sunday - The Suntrail Special
We will send out a note with a schedule for the Race on Friday during the day. We will also provide some glide waxing recommendations.
Based on the number of skiers that are NOT going to The Suntrail Special, we may look to coordinate a group ski at Hardwood.
As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
- Try to get-out to Hardwood, or anywhere else with SNOW, for at least one (or two) extra skis per week
- Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
- Running – Try for 20-30min. Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
- Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either indoors or outdoors if safe
- Strength Training – Try some of the exercises that we do at practice on your own. These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week. You can either run outside as a warm-up, then do strength inside, or run on a treadmill followed by your strength workout!
- Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc. There are LOTS of great resources online
- We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
