Week of Oct 17th - Thanks for a Great Start

What a great first three weeks of practices - we're already seeing some great progress!

Everyone seemed to have fun trying out the Ski Ergs.  We'll continue to do more on the Ergs in the coming weeks to prepare ourselves for lots of poling when the snow flies!  We'll also try to get-out for a roller ski or two before winter arrives as well.

We're also keen to continue to help families find the ski gear that they need for this winter.  If you have any further ski-related questions, please reach-out to us and we'll be glad to help.

The stores for Team Kit are also open - see HERE for the Garneau store for Warm-Up Jackets, Pants, Tights, Tops, etc., and see HERE for the Jackroo store for Hats, Puffy Coats, etc.  You can also order Socks from Outway with the Logos are well by adding your names to the spreadsheet HERE.

Please know that there is NO requirement to purchase Team Kit, but it is a great way to show your support, the clothing is a great price and it works!

Some of the race dates have also been confirmed and we'll send those out in a separate email this week upcoming.

Lastly, remember to block-off the weekend of Oct 29th and Oct 30th for our annual two-day "Ninja" Camp.

Tuesday – Running and Strength Training at Hardwood

We will again be doing a combination of Running - no ski poles needed - and Bodyweight exercises.

Arrive by 5:15PM and meet at The Palace so that we can get running right at 5:30PM and the practice will run until 7:00PM.

If things are dry, we'll play some soccer/baseball at the end of practice, if not we'll do some more time on the Ski Ergs.

Be sure to bring good trail running shoes as well as some warm clothes for afterward as the sun will be going down as we are wrapping up.

Saturday – Pole Walking at MOUNT ST. LOUIS

We will be aligning our practice with the Senior Team at Mount St. Louis again.  Please arrive by 9:15PAM and park to the left of the Kids Camp Building in the large lot near the base of the Gentle Ben Lift - see map HERE.

We will be cheering on the Senior Team during their "Hill Test" as well as doing a mini version ourselves.  We'll also do a few strength tests as well as play a fun Lego game

Practice will wrap up at 11:30AM as usual.  Bring POLES!

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:

  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either on-road or off-road
  • Fun at Recess – Play Basketball, Touch Football, Grounders, or just about anything that has you moving and jumping
  • Strength Training – Try some of the exercises that we do at practice on your own.  These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week.  Perhaps combine them with a run in your local park or forest!
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
  • We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
