Week of Jan 23rd - Shaking the Ground in Sudbury!!!

It certainly was an eventful weekend in Sudbury with LOTS of smiles all around.  I wanted to include a quote from Sarah below about the weekend:

"This weekend was a great opportunity for the Junior skiers to see what the next level is. We want to keep it slightly lower-key and fun with the group but it is nice for them to experience a “BIG” race. The coaches are super proud of the hard work and grit shown by the skiers. Lots of learning for everyone (parents too). It is snowing now in Oro-Medonte and I know I am excited to get on the snow and work on improving my technique."

Our strong skiing must have had a pretty profound effect on the local area as there was a small earthquake on Sunday afternoon!

Racing shows us so many things.  It shows us how far we've come and show us how much further we can still grow.

We're going to take all the learnings from this past weekend as we build towards our next events.

Tuesday - Skate Skiing at HSB

HSB is now OPEN for Night Skiing so we can now use The Chalet!

Arrive between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can begin skiing by 5:30PM.

working HEADLAMP is still REQUIRED to participate.  Please make sure you have yours packed with fresh/charged batteries.

Practice will run until 7:00PM as per usual.

Saturday - Mono Nordic Race (Possible)

We have our fingers crossed that Monora Park in Orangeville will receive enough snow to run the event.  If they do not, we'll run our own Time Trial at HSB - likely out on the Sochi Extension.

Stay tuned for more details!

Sunday - Classic at HSB

We'll be working on Classic Technique on Sunday with hopefully even more snow on the ground.

We'll send some waxing recommendations on Saturday night.  The good news is that it will likely be a Blue wax.

We'll meet at The Chalet at 9:20AM to 9:25PM so that we can get skiing by 9:30AM.  Practice will run until 11:30AM.

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthily
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 20-30min, indoors on a Spin Bike while watching your favourite show
  • Strength Training – Keep up with the exercises that we did at practice in the Fall on your own.  We would encourage everyone to keep up with doing one Run/Strength session each week.
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
  • We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
