Dec 5-Dec 31 Bring on the New Year

Since I didn't get this photo in last week.....

So this week I am away until the 2nd, and some of you are away with your families.  I can make some suggestions for you, but keep skiing and try to keep some intensity to your workouts (if you are where there is little snow, try to get the shoes on and do some running sprints)

Mix up this week with some of the following workouts...Any day will work. I realize it is late in the week already...
Alternate classic and skate, but given the temperatures, it feels like classic. Green wax!!

Monday: Rest or alternate sports
Tuesday: Ski with sprints - 1-2 min sprints  with 2-4 min off about 15 min of hard work
Wednesday: Ski 1 hr with some hill sprints
Thursday: Ski with sprints - 1-2 min sprints  with 2-4 min off about 15 min of hard work
Friday: Rest or alternate sports
Saturday: Strength work out!  Try to grab your skate skis and classic poles and do some warm ups double poling!  Maybe try to race a family member. Alternate quick repeats with long hard pushes. Then go for a ski with regular equipment.
Sunday: Long Slow Ski (but keep warm and manage your body temperature)

I will be back for Wednesday practice on the 3rd. More on that soon. Looks like we may be at Horseshoe Resort and will start early to get 2 hrs of light. So plan for say 3pm.... We will tackle their exciting hills!

UPCOMING RACE:
The Midland Loppett is approaching. Please note that for SOD points you must enter the classic event in your age category.

Jacks Update on December 26: some of us skied at Horseshoe today and it was good. The people at Horseshoe have been nice enough to offer our team skiers the opportunity to ski for free for the next few days. Please make sure that you say thank you to Laurie Graham who has made this possible. It would be good if we all made at least a small purchase in the cafe.

There is no new news about Hardwood. Gareth has still not spoken directly to the insurance agents and the fire marshal has still not released the scene. At this time I do not think that Hardwood will be open by the weekend.

JACKS update on Dec 25th Merry Christmas everyone. I hope that Santa was good to you and that you have had a great day with your family.

On Xmas morning at 8:00 am I received a phone call telling me that there had been a fire at Hardwood in the main chalet. I spent the morning there.

The fire started in the change rooms behind the cafe kitchen and has destroyed that part of the building. There is extensive smoke and water damage in the main part of the chalet and some damage in the West Wing.

When I left at noon the 25 + firemen and their 7 trucks were packing up to leave, the insurance adjustor had arrived and we were waiting for the fire marshal to arrive.

The main chalet is not usable and will not be open for a long time. The cafe will have to be re-built, the main chalet will have to be taken down to the studs and the walls and carpeting in the West Wing will need to be replaced and repaired.

In the short term it does not look like Hardwood will be open on the 26th for skiing. There is no Hydro or power, except for the house, no washrooms, no power to run the gas tanks for the groomers, etc, etc, etc. Until the fire marshal has done his inspection and releases the site no one is allowed near or inside the main chalet to retrieve anything including computers, phones, etc. All of the soft goods in the retail shop will have extensive smoke damage.
