Jan 22 - Jan28 Muskoka Loppet

Hi everyone!  Well we are well into race season now, with every weekend spoken for in the coming weeks. The photo below was taken at a Highschool Race with an Elementary division and the swag we picked up afterwards. Way to go racers!

Sudbury was a huge success. Team Hardwood had 9 podiums Saturday and almost as many Sunday. This is a team record. It was a team effort- from waxers, cheer leaders, chauffeurs, coaches, racers...!

This week coming up we have a change in the Wednesday night practices. We will meet from 6-8pm. Please bring skate skis. We will do time trials again, but also some repeats on THE CRUNCH to prepare for downhills at Easterns.

Week ahead:   Remember you can mix up the week but try to fit it all in.

Monday: REST - especially if you raced Saturday and Sunday. Stretch, yoga, reflect....
Tuesday: Strength workout.  Keep this going all through Race season. Don't relax on the strength even on a race week. Trust me  :)
Wednesday: Hardwood Practice 6-8pm Skate style. TT and Hills
Thursday: Cardio Intensity. Can you do some 10 - 1min intensity sprints?
Friday: Cardio. Can you ski 1.5hrs?  If not, run-cycle-swim-hockey-fun!
Saturday: Training at Hardwood 9:30am  Classic style. Technique, corners, hills...lets do it all!
Sunday: Muskoka Loppet http://arrowheadnordic.ca/blog/events/muskoka-loppet/

There is very VERY little in terms of indoor space at Arrowhead Nordic, so come prepared to be outside.  Weather looks promising.

Races start at 10:30 so lets plan a group pre-ski warm up at 9:30am sharp. That means on skis ready to rock and roll. The trailer should be on site with wax support, so please have your tips and tails waxed (forecast looks warm) and grip zones taped and clean for application on Sunday morning.  If this changes I will update you as to how/where to drop skis for local racers.

As a challenge, anyone who is willing to add some extra kms, you could finish your 5k course and then jump on the 15km course (minus the 5k flat section through the campground that you will race). Think about it and we will see who is interested. The beautiful part of the course is the lake loop.

Lets plan to have a team chat after the race (as long as weather is good) to have a final chat about Easterns coming up very soon. I want everyone to feel comfortable with the events coming up. Thanks Scott for arranging the Barn for us.

Let me know if I am missing anything!!
