WOW - That was a lot of bling Hardwood brought in over the weekend. I hope you enjoyed the Georgian Nordic site - what was not to love - good snow, sun, food, friends and....ski jumping?!??!
Monday - Rest - you earned if after some fine skiing on Sunday in crazy conditions
Tuesday - Try to get out on skis or keep conditioning with running and or skiing or snowshoeing. It will be a balmy 0oC ish…. get OUTSIDE!
Wednesday - There is a highschool race - the Hardwood invitational #2 event on at Hardwood if you can enter it, great! Some extra intensity always works! If you need a workout, today is a great STRENGTH day. Always include core in this workout.
Thursday - Practice will be at 5:30pm-7:30pm Meet me in the Chalet.
Lets do skate technique. I will be arriving at 5pm with Sr skiers and just be warming up or skiing around the chalet. Let's get practice started at 5:30 SHARP if possible. Please bring headlamps to every evening ski so that we can maximize our training. Maybe this week I will remember mine!
Friday - Rest or Alternative activity.
I am away for the races in Walden - but if you are here - these are some suggestions
Saturday - 9am-noon (9:29 skiing out of the chalet on skis). Either skate or classic, but make sure you do the opposite technique on Sunday. Temperatures dropping again. This practice is one we should organize with the families that are staying home and not attending the Walden OCup. Maybe we can blow up the What's App and make some plans to ski together. Intervals against parents are my favourite…. maybe the Barn loop or Kim's loop - keep them longer than 1 min if possible.
Sunday - Long slow ski - this can be a long consistent ski - keep it fun and light. There is also a World Snow Day event at Highlands Nordic if anyone wants to make the trip.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO WALDEN:
We plan to leave Friday and do a pre-ski of the courses. Looks like a 5k skate Saturday and pursuit 5k classic on Sunday. These are always very exciting races. See you there. Lets communicate about what time we want to pre-ski but I think around 2 or 3pm should be fine.
UPCOMING RACES:
SOD event in Mono is one I think as Jr. Devo we should plan to attend as a team.
The Muskoka Loppett is one of my absolute favourites. It includes a very scenic ski around a lake! They also have a brand new chalet. There is also a fantastic attraction of skating (on skates) where they flood part of the trails and use a mini Zamboni to create a fantastic ice-skating surface weaving in and out of the trails. A must do for families (if you still have the energy after the race). On another note: if the Muskoka temperatures are appropriate, Team Hardwood has often used this race as a "Double pole only" event for training. Might be interesting to wax skate skis and use classic poles.... we can discuss as the time nears.

A few notes on Easterns: Friday is when they run the 'prologue' or sprints. You may enter as a Friday only racer if you wish. Saturday and Sunday are run as a pursuit race event. You race Saturday in skate style and then again on Sunday as a pursuit on classic so you MUST enter both races. A pursuit is a lot of fun and is a common style to run weekend long races. Ocup points are still awarded based on how fast you race each event, but the winner of the weekend is the first skier across the line at the end of Sunday's race.
