Well, 2020 certainly was a memorable year and one that we will all talk about for many years to come. I know that we are all grateful for the fact that we can still ski, but that means working extra hard to set a good example by skiing only with our family and maintaining distance from others.
That doesn't mean ignoring your teammates! We can't stop and say "Hi" if we stay 2m apart and we can definitely call-out if we see a teammate on an adjacent trail. Let's work hard to stay connected, keep having fun all while working to become better skiers!
Our training will look a little bit different for the next four or so weeks, but we promise to keep you moving, keep you connected and keep you working hard as a team - we are Team Hardwood after all!
Wednesday - Strength Training on Zoom
Please join between 5:15PM and 5:25PM so that we can start at 5:30PM
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5602405075 or use meeting ID: 560 240 5075
BEFORE you start the workout, please make sure of the following:
- Make sure you have a safe place to perform basic bodyweight exercises
- Look for an open area 6ft x 8ft on a soft floor (e.g. carpet or mats) that floor isn't slippery
- Make sure you work with your parents to test your computer set-up to you can see, and be seen, as well as hear, and be heard
- Make sure you have proper athletic clothing and a water bottle
DURING the workout, please have a strong commitment to:
- Listen to ALL the instructions
- Try to do ALL the exercises with excellent form
- Put forth a consistent effort throughout the ENTIRE workout
Parents are welcomed and encouraged to join in as all of these exercises will help your skiing too! Our first session will be pretty low-key as we want to ease back into things.
Saturday - SKATE Skiing at Hardwood
Start with some no poles skiing around the Teaching Flats to work-on your balance and your glide. We'll be out on Kim's Loop again (including the Grind!) from 10AM to 11AM. Hopefully, we'll see you out on there so that we can watch your excellent balance and glide as you ski by us!
Sunday - CLASSIC Skiing at Hardwood
Start with some no poles skiing up and down some of the tracks in the Teaching Flats to work-on your kick and glide. Remember to place your new ski/foot down AHEAD of the ski/foot that's on the ground. That way you stay on one ski at a time and prevent the dreaded ski SLAP on the snow.
Also, practice some double-poling in the tracks getting up your heels up and your poles out in front of you.
After your warm-up, we will have two sections of trail on which we would like you to time yourself!
The first is from the bottom of Short and Sassy to the Posts and the second is on Little Dipper and Wiggly from where Torino turns Left until the start of the Wiggly Extension - see below:
Please let us know your times afterwards so that we can both track your progress over the course of this season. After you've completed these two sections, come find us out on the new Wiggly/Sochi Extension to tell us all about it!
We'll be out there skiing and enjoying the sun (and fuzzy peaches) from 10AM to 11AM.
