Week of Jan 24 - More Racing!

Three, Two, One GO, GO, GO!

A BIG Congratulations to everyone that was able to participate in the Mono Nordic Race on Saturday.  It was great to see everyone's best skiing on what was a nice sunny day.

Racing shows us where we have improved as well as our opportunities for improvement.

I think we can all come to appreciate that we're a bit spoiled at Harewood with how WIDE the trails are compared to most other places!

It was also great to see Adam Marshall back on a Start Line after a few years away from racing.

Wednesday - Skate

Please arrive at The Chalet between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can get started at 5:30PM.

We will be doing some more skills, drills, and agility around the Night Loop.  We might venture off to some of the trails just outside of the Night Loop, so BRING HEADLAMPS

Thursday - NEW - Team Hardwood Skate Race

We're encouraging everyone to come out on Thursday Night for our first of two "Team Hardwood" Race of the Season.  The Seniors will be out racing as well!

Please arrive at The Chalet between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can get started at 5:30PM.

The Seniors will race first at 5:30PM and I'd like us to be there to cheer them on!  They should be wrapped up just after 6:00PM, so we can start our races around 6:15PM.

We will be doing Mini Mass Starts on either a 2km (1 Loop) or 4km (2 Loops) Course on the Lit Trails - so no Headlamps needed.

We will be taking the times from Thursday Night's race and using them to create our Start List for Saturday morning's "Pursuit Race"

Saturday – Team Hardwood Classic Race

We will be doing what's called a "Pursuit Race" on Saturday morning on the "Tree Loop" on the Sochi Extension.

A Pursuit Race is where the fastest skier from Race #1 starts first and the rest of the skiers start based on the amount of time they finished behind the fastest skier from Race #1.

Pursuit Races are often Classic first and then Skate second, but we're doing the reverse as it works better for our purposes.

Those that did the 2km racing on Thursday Night will ski 1-1/2 "Tree Loops🌲".  Those that did 4km on Thursday Night will ski 2-1/2 "Tree Loops🌲🌲".

We will Start in the same spot as last time (the sunny stretch🌞), but Finish where the "Tree Loop" meets the large open section of the Sochi Extension.  That's more than 1/2 a loop, but don't tell anyone😁

Please arrive by 9:20AM so that we can get skiing by 9:30AM.  We will do some technique work as part of our warm-up and look to start the first skiers by 10:30AM.

Sunday - Long Skate Ski

We will start on the Teaching Flats with some drills, skills, and games (One-Ski Soccer⚽🥅!!!) before heading out for a Skate Ski.

Please arrive by 9:20AM so that we can get Started by 9:30AM.  After we finish One-Ski Soccer⚽🥅, we would like you to do a 50-70min continuous ski.

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
  • Try to get-out to Hardwood, or anywhere else with SNOW, for at least one (or two) extra skis per week
  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either indoors or outdoors if safe
  • Strength Training – Try some of the exercises that we do at practice on your own.  These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week.  You can either run outside as a warm-up, then do strength inside, or run on a treadmill followed by your strength workout!
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
  • We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
