Week of Feb 28th - Fun in the Sun!

Fun in the Sun at the Ski (ish) Cross

What a great way to end off a totally wild week of weather yesterday than racing under sunny skies in Midland.  It was great to see the whole Junior Team, as well as many past Juniors, on what I think we'd all agree is a really FUN course!

We're back at it this weekend with both the Lakefield Ontario Cup as well as the Fischer Loppet.  Now that we are in a busy period of racing, it's important to take care of yourself.  Be sure to get plenty of sleep, eat well and take care of your body.

That means to continue with some easy training between races, make sure to stretch and keep doing just a bit of strength training.

Keep watching your emails for details for this weekend's events.

Below is a note for those attending the Lakefield Ontario Cup that would like to have their skis waxed by the team for the Saturday Classic race:

For all of you who are going to the OCup this weekend we will need your CLASSIC race skis in the trailer ready for glide waxing by 3 pm on Friday afternoon in Lakefield.

Ready for glide waxing means cleaned, scraped and ready to wax with wax zones marked and your name on the skis. You do not need to sand or tape the grip zone. Make sure that you clean the sidewalls and edges too.

If you have zero, crowns or skins skis then we will also need them as well by 3 pm on Friday. The weather forecast is for a low of -7 and a high of +2 on Saturday with snow so we might need to use them.

If you cannot be at the trails at Lakefield by 3 pm on Friday then you need to get your CLASSIC skis to the coaches at the end of practice on Wednesday.

As we are going to Skate on Wednesday, I would encourage everyone to get out for a Classic Ski either tonight or tomorrow in advance of the weekend.  It's supposed to be -3C and lightly snowing tomorrow night, so a perfect temps for some Blue Extra!  Or perhaps a colder Violet with a Blue Cover.

Wednesday - Skate

Please arrive at The Chalet between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can get started at 5:30PM.

We will do some technique followed by some timed Skate Intervals to practice pacing for this weekend.  We'll wrap up with a few games

Saturday – Lakefield Ontario Cup or Fischer Loppet - Emails to Follow later in the week

Sunday - Lakefield Ontario Cup or Easy Ski at HSB

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
  • Try to get-out to Hardwood, or anywhere else with SNOW, for at least one (or two) extra skis per week
  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either indoors or outdoors if safe
  • Strength Training – Try some of the exercises that we do at practice on your own.  These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week.  You can either run outside as a warm-up, then do strength inside, or run on a treadmill followed by your strength workout!
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
  • We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
