Happy Family (Ski) Day
After two blustery days this past weekend, it was great to see many families out again today in some FAST conditions at Hardwood.
We are now in the latter part of the ski season and some more up-and-down weather will be in-store. That means we might have to alter our plans from time to time to adapt to the weather, but we are Nordic Skiers after all!
We also have several Races to round out the season as well as a few Virtual Challenges as well. Between the Midland Ski (ish) Cross this Sunday, the NEW Ontario Cup in Lakefield on March 5th & 6th, and the Ontario Youth Champs in Sault St. Marie on March 12th & 13th there is no shortage of racing!
Look for separate emails on each of the races above!
Wednesday - Classic
Please arrive at The Chalet between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can get started at 5:30PM.
We will be doing some more skills and drills on trails outside of the Night Loop, so BRING HEADLAMPS!!!
The conditions should be very FAST, so we'll be focusing on Double Poling for this Ski!
Saturday – Skate
We will look to have a return to a "regular" Team Hardwood weekend practice with some games, skills, easy skiing, and a few sprints at the end.
Please meet at The Palace between 9:20AM and 9:25AM so that we can get started by 9:30AM. We will spend the first 30min on the Teaching Flats before heading out on the trails for the remainder of the practice.
Sunday - The MIdland Ski (ish) Cross
We will send out a note with a schedule for the Race on Friday or Saturday once that Start List is posted. We will also provide some glide waxing recommendations.
Take a look at the Race Notice HERE as the event is actually an Interval Start Skate with some "Ski Cross" type features likely added to the later part of the course.
As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
- Try to get-out to Hardwood, or anywhere else with SNOW, for at least one (or two) extra skis per week
- Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
- Running – Try for 20-30min. Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
- Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either indoors or outdoors if safe
- Strength Training – Try some of the exercises that we do at practice on your own. These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week. You can either run outside as a warm-up, then do strength inside, or run on a treadmill followed by your strength workout!
- Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc. There are LOTS of great resources online
- We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
