What a Sweet Weekend of Skiing with some treats at the end.
This week will have some more up-and-down weather, but the weekend looks like a return to winter conditions.
Congratulations to those Junior Skiers who attended the Eastern Championships at Nakkertok on the weekend. Racing up against the bigger U16 and U18 skiers, as well as a difficult course, was certainly a challenge but Percy, Hallie and Anna should all be proud of their efforts. A special mention also goes out Holly, Justine and Tommy as recent grads now with the Senior Team.
There is more racing to come at the end of the month in Midland for the Ski(ish) Cross Skate Race on Sun Feb 27th. There has also been a NEW Ontario Cup event announced for the weekend of March 5th & 6th just North of Peterborough. More details on both will follow in an email.
Wednesday - Skate OR Zoom Strength
The weather Wednesday evening is projected to be very warm (+5C) and raining. We'll make a final call in the early afternoon as to whether it makes sense to hold and outdoor practice. If the weather won't' allow us to have fun outdoors, we'll get back on Zoom and reacquainted with our Strength exercises.
Watch your emails on Wednesday for our final decision.
Saturday – Classic
We will send-out some waxing recommendations on Friday afternoon, but we should all be on our Grip Wax Skis. Please arrive at The Palace between 9:20AM and 9:25AM so that we can get started at 9:30AM.
We will look to do some drills for the first 20min and then head out for a steady ski with some hill striding.
We'll return to the Teaching Flats just around 11:30AM.
Sunday - Skate
We will return to the Sochi Extension for more drills and skills working on our One-Skate.and our Offset.
Please arrive by 9:20AM so that we can get Skiing by 9:30AM. We will do some technique for the first 30min on the short flat loop near the Parking Lot. At 10AM we will head-over to "The Tree Loop".
As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
- Try to get-out to Hardwood, or anywhere else with SNOW, for at least one (or two) extra skis per week
- Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
- Running – Try for 20-30min. Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
- Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either indoors or outdoors if safe
- Strength Training – Try some of the exercises that we do at practice on your own. These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week. You can either run outside as a warm-up, then do strength inside, or run on a treadmill followed by your strength workout!
- Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc. There are LOTS of great resources online
- We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
