What a great weekend of events and getting to see some of our friends from other ski clubs.
All of the coaches were so impressed with both your efforts and the improvement in your technique. Remember that a great race is the sum of a thousand small things done well. So just continue to focus on the details and the results will take care of themselves.
We are very grateful for the efforts of both Georgian Nordic (Parry Sound) and the Bruce Ski Club (Suntrail Special) for their efforts in organizing this past weekend.
A big thanks also goes out from ALL of the kids (wink - nudge) to the parents, coaches, and waxers for all their support this past weekend.
For this week, some skiers that are splitting their time between the Junior and Senior Team will be traveling to the Ottawa area this weekend for some additional events, but the majority will be here for skiing at Hardwood in some amazing conditions.
Wednesday - Classic
Please arrive at The Chalet between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can get started at 5:30PM.
After two weeks of blustery weather, we WILL ski on trails outside of the Night Loop, so BRING HEADLAMPS!!!
We will also use one of our short loops out on the trails to do a Team Sprint.
Granted there will still be more awesome snow in the air on Tuesday and Wednesday, so plan to bring your Crowns/Skins for this ski. If you would like to use hard wax, be sure to cover it with two layers of a colder wax so that it can shed snow.
Saturday – Skate
Please arrive at The Palace between 9:20AM and 9:25AM so that we can get started at 9:30AM.
We will look to do some drills, agility, and skills for the first 20min and then head out for a steady ski with some short Sprints.
We'll return to the Teaching Flats just after 11:00AM to wrap-up with some one-ski soccer⚽
Sunday - Classic
We will return to the Sochi Extension for more drills and skills as well as a Long Classic Ski which will also include some short sprints.
Please arrive by 9:20AM so that we can get Skiing by 9:30AM. We will do some more Classic technique up to 10:00AM, then a 75-90min continuous ski.
As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
- Try to get-out to Hardwood, or anywhere else with SNOW, for at least one (or two) extra skis per week
- Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
- Running – Try for 20-30min. Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
- Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either indoors or outdoors if safe
- Strength Training – Try some of the exercises that we do at practice on your own. These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week. You can either run outside as a warm-up, then do strength inside, or run on a treadmill followed by your strength workout!
- Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc. There are LOTS of great resources online
- We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
