What a great weekend of fun at our annual "Ninja Camp". It was great to see the kids get to know each other even better and be active outdoors all weekend.
We also tried Roller Skiing - for many this was a first! Keep working on your balance and keeping your skis flat; whether that be on the road or on the snow!
We will be sending out a short email this week with a wrap-up of the costs of food.
Tuesday – Running and Strength Training at Hardwood
We will again be doing a combination of Running - No Poles Needed - and Bodyweight exercises.
Arrive by 5:20PM and meet at The Palace so that we can get started right at 5:30PM and the practice will run until 7:00PM.
We'll play some soccer/baseball at the BEGINNING of practice and then head out onto the Trails for a Run.
Be sure to BRING a HEADLAMP, as well as a pair of good trail running shoes, as our run will be in the fading light. Consider also bringing some warm clothes for afterward as the sun will be down as we are wrapping up.
With the coming time change this weekend, this will be our LAST in-person practice on Tuesdays until we get consistent snow. Next Tuesday we will move to Online Strength on Zoom.
In advance of this change for next week, please look to ensure the following:
- Make sure you have a safe place to perform basic bodyweight exercises
- Look for an open area 6ft x 8ft on a soft floor (e.g. carpet or mats) that isn't slippery
- Make sure you work with your parents to test your computer set-up so you can see, and be seen, as well as hear, and be heard
- Make sure you have proper athletic clothing and a water bottle
Saturday – UPDATED - Roller Skiing
With the AWESOME Fall weather on tap for Saturday, we are going to change our plans and go Roller Skiing again.
We will also be moving the location of the practice to the corner of Line 7 North and Warminster Side Road - about an 8min drive from Hardwood. Families with a skier in the Senior program will know this location, but for those that don't see the directions we sent via email
OTHER NOTES
- Wear a BRIGHT coloured top - this is REQUIRED for skiing on the Road
- Please arrive by 9:15AM so that we can get you geared up for skiing at 9:30AM.
- ALL Skiers - and Parents if you also want to ski - MUST obey the Safety Rules we set out for Roller Skiing on the road.
- For those that found Skate skiing harder on their balance, perhaps consider bringing your Classic boots instead and you can do more double polling instead.
As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
- Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthy
- Running – Try for 20-30min. Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
- Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either on-road or off-road
- Fun at Recess – Play Basketball, Touch Football, Grounders, or just about anything that has you moving and jumping
- Strength Training – Try some of the exercises that we do at practice on your own. These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week. Perhaps combine them with a run in your local park or forest!
- Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc. There are LOTS of great resources online
- We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
