Week of Feb 20th - Epic Snow Battle!!!

What a great way to wrap up this year's Ontario Cup with a sunny day and plenty of smiles to go around.

Here's a great note from Coach Sarah about this past weekend:

I am super impressed with everyone’s effort and team spirit this weekend. Remember that each of us (team members, coaches, and parents) play a role when one of us reaches the podium. As teammates, you push each other in practice and in races to be the best you can be. Without teammates pushing us to be our best, we would be as strong or as fast. Each of you have improved in technique this year and you will continue to get better with drills, feedback from coaches and time on skis.

Having said that, I know what my favourite part of this past weekend at Lakefield was - Jr's vs. The World in an Epic Snow Ball Battle:)

This week - fingers crossed - we should see more fresh snow on Wednesday night into Thursday morning which should set us up nicely for the weekend.

Tuesday - Classic Skiing at HSB

We will meet at The Chalet!  Arrive between 5:20PM and 5:25PM so that we can begin skiing by 5:30PM.

working HEADLAMP is still REQUIRED to participate.  Please make sure you have yours packed with fresh/charged batteries.

As it stands right now Purple Wax should do, but I'll bring some Blue if we need to cover it a bit.

Practice will run until 7:00PM as per usual.

Saturday - More Classic

We'll be working on some hill climbing technique and starts in advance of what we hope will be the 5th Race in the SOD Series - the Community Classic Loppet at the Sawmill Trails in Hepworth.  Stay tuned for more details on this event, but think about carpool options in advance of Sunday.

Sunday - Community Classic Loppet

More info to follow via email.  Families will do their own glide waxing prior to the weekend.  Should be a Glide wax for -4C to -2C.

The team will work with Parent Volunteers to provide Grip Waxing for ALL skiers - parents too if you'd like to race:)

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:
  • Be active every day, get enough sleep and be sure to always eat healthily
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 20-30min, indoors on a Spin Bike while watching your favourite show
  • Strength Training – Keep up with the exercises that we did at practice in the Fall on your own.  We would encourage everyone to keep up with doing one Run/Strength session each week.
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
  • We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
