The Start of the 2021-2022 Season!

Welcome to the 2021-2022 Team Hardwood Junior Blog

It seems like such a long time ago many of us were enjoying the sun on the last ski day of the year in the Sochi Extension Parking Lot.  We had just finished a game of "Capture the Belt" after an adventurous ski through - quite literally - the forest.

We begin the 2021-2022 Ski Season with the prospect for a normal ski season looking very promising.  Sarah, Bronwen, and I are looking forward to skiing with each of you this season and seeing you improve each and every practice.  Hopefully, our trend for good weather for our practices continues as seems to be the case for this weekend upcoming.

Some events are also returning and we will do our best to keep everyone posted on dates for both local and regional events as they are finalized.  We are also really looking forward to cheering you at the races this year as well as seeing you cheer for your teammates!

We will be looking to connect with each family, both new and returning, over the next few weeks to review recommended equipment and clothing, chat about goals for the upcoming year as well as answer any additional questions you might have.

We will also be posting a document in the coming weeks that gives a high-level overview of our coaching philosophy for the Junior Team.  Our focus is on having fun with friends as we all work to become better skiers.  The document will also cover our very objective approach to how we look to gauge a skier's improvement as well as how we encourage them to reflect upon their training sessions and their races.

We are looking forward to another great season of Team Hardwood

Saturday (Walking with Ski Poles)

We will look to meet at "The Palace" - that the Blue Shipping Container in the larger to the two parking lots at Hardwood - for our first practice.

Please arrive between 9:15AM and 9:20AM so that way we can start the practice at 9:30AM SHARP.

Please wear shoes with good tread and bring along a water bottle as well as a means by which to carry it around your waist.

Poles for ski walking should be just over the height of your elbows when your arms are at your side.  With growing kids, last year's Classic poles are often just the right length!

We will do about an hour's walk and then return to the area around The Palace for some games.

Practice will wrap up right around 11:30AM!

See you Saturday!
