Week of Oct 7th - Climb Every Mountain

What an interesting week of weather.  We hid out in the tunnel on Tuesday night to wait out a passing shower nearly in the dark and had nothing but sunshine on Saturday!

This week we will continue to build on the progress we've made on our endurance, but add some strength exercises as well as go Roller Skiing!

Tuesday - More Strength and Fun at Hardwood

Please meet at The Palace at 5:20PM so we can get moving by 5:30PM.  Temperatures look to be cool with the possibility of showers, so come prepared

We will do a group "conversation-paced" run, introduce skate bounding, and then finish off with our own version of soccer-baseball with lots of strength exercises mixed in!

Practice will run until 7:00PM.

Saturday – Roller Skiing!!!

As the weather seems reasonable on Saturday morning, we will look to do our first Roller Ski of the season.

We will meet at the corner of Line 7 North and Warminster Side Road see HERE for directions.

If your family has Roller Skis, please bring ALL of them so we can share.  The Coaches will bring all of the Team's Skis, as well as several of their own.

OTHER NOTES
  • Wear a well-fitting Bike Helmet - REQUIRED
  • Wear a BRIGHT coloured top - this is also REQUIRED for skiing on the Road
  • Consider elbow and knee pads if they make you feel more comfortable - just a suggestion
  • Please arrive by 9:15AM so we can get you geared up for skiing at 9:30AM.
  • ALL Skiers - and Parents if you also want to ski - MUST obey the Safety Rules we set out for Roller Skiing on the road.
For those who are still getting comfortable Roller Skiing, or who haven't before, please bring your Classic Boots and Classic Poles - with SHARP tips - as we will likely have you on a set of Classic Skis as they're more stable.

For those who have Roller Skied before, please bring your Skate Boots and Skate Poles - with SHARP tips.

We'll also finish earlier - est.11AM to 11:15AM - as most of the kids will only be able to Roller Ski 60-90min.  We will ski for about 1hr to 1:15hr and then play some "skier-hunt" in the adjacent Simcoe County Forest.

As for the rest of your week, here are some suggestions for other activities should you need them:

  • Be active every day, get enough sleep, and be sure to always eat healthy
  • Running – Try for 20-30min.  Start easy, but find some hills if you can!
  • Cycling – Try for 45-60min, either on-road or off-road
  • Fun at Recess – Play Basketball, Touch Football, Grounders, or just about anything that has you moving and jumping
  • Strength Training – Try some of the exercises that we do at practice on your own.  These can all be done either inside or outside and I would encourage everyone to try to do one additional Run/Strength session each week.  Perhaps combine them with a run in your local park or forest!
  • Be sure to keep working on your mobility either through stretching, yoga, pilates, etc.  There are LOTS of great resources online
  • We know that most of you are quite active between practices, just be sure you are doing something for 45-60min most every day.
